A quick glimpse into my thoughts on various fiction

About Me

Photo of Sinead FoyI’m Sinéad, a 23 year-old marketing masters student. I started this blog as one of the credits towards my masters, but as it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, I intend to keep it running beyond the college year. I have always had a huge interest in reading, mainly due to the influence of my parents. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t surrounded by much-loved books. I think that reading is an important thing to instill in children and, as such, we’re that family that always gives book vouchers at Christmas!

I read a lot of different kinds of books, although it’s rare that I read a non-fiction book. My favourite genres include historical fiction, fantasy and science-fiction. I do also read books set in the modern-day, such as thrillers or romance books, but these would feature less often. My favourite series of books is probably His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, but there are many more I could also gush over!

My interest in science-fiction books is definitely driven by my brother (who, incidentally is a scientist). Almost all of the science-fiction books, and a few of the fantasy books, I’ve read have been given to me by him. I look forward to the day when I can return the favour and recommend some books to him that he’s never heard of!

Naturally, reading isn’t my only interest. I also love watching films, making cosplays (a story for another blog perhaps), playing video games, writing and spending time with my friends. An unusual thing about me is that I am coeliac and have been all my life. As a result, I often wonder how I would fare as the protagonist in some of the books I read. I get the feeling that it wouldn’t end very well in certain books, especially those that feature the protagonist going on some sort of long journey relying only on the kindness of strangers for food. I imagine it’s difficult to be begging for food and then say, “Oh sorry, what ingredients went into that? Can I get it without the bread?” or similar statements.

I have a Goodreads account, although I’m still not totally sold on the site’s layout. It seems to be useful for discovering new books though.

Thank you for the nomination 🙂 I don’t think I’ll be passing it on though as I’m really busy with college at the moment (hence the lack of new blog posts lately)
