A quick glimpse into my thoughts on various fiction

Happy Holidays

I just wanted to write a quick post to let you all know that I am going on my Christmas holidays as of tomorrow so I will not be posting anything for a little while. My brother is arriving back from America tomorrow also and I want to spend some time catching up with him.

I think it’s important that we all have time to recharge our batteries, so whether Christmas is something you celebrate or not, I’d like to wish you all a very healthy and happy holiday season, wherever you may be and whatever you may be doing.

Hopefully I’ll be getting my hands on some good books over the holidays too!

See you in 2013!

Blood of Elves – Andrzej Sapkowski

Blood of Elves

Blood of Elves is the first book in the Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski, which, incidentally, is the series that inspired the video game of the same name. Blood of Elves is another book recommended to me by my brother so I had no idea what it was about. Read the rest of this entry »

The Secrets of Mary Bowser – Lois Leveen

Book cover of "The Secrets of Mary Bowser" The Secrets of Mary Bowser

Way back in April, I received a book voucher for my birthday. I managed to pick up a few books from it, including The Secrets of Mary Bowser. Somehow, I then managed to forget about it until relatively recently. How glad I am that I remembered to read it! Read the rest of this entry »

Guest Post: Zom-B – Darren Shan

Today I have managed to secure a guest post from a very good friend of mine, Leanne Douglas. The two of us have been friends for near  ten years now and have always been exchanging books and recommending good reads to each other. At one stage, Leanne was even writing a book that included me as one of the characters! (What ever happened to that anyway?) Leanne currently runs her own beauty blog; Rants, Raves and Rambles. I suggest you give it a look! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy reading Leanne’s post. Read the rest of this entry »

The Corpse-Rat King – Lee Battersby

Book cover of "The Corpse-Rat King"

The Corpse-Rat King

I was given this book as a present from my dad with the warning that he had never heard of the author, or The Corpse-Rat King itself, but thought it might be an interesting read. As such, I approached this book with an open mind and no preconceptions about the quality of its content. Read the rest of this entry »

Guest Post: Heartbreak and Triumph – Shawn Michaels

This week, I have another guest post for you to enjoy. Today’s post is by my boyfriend, Gary Hernon, of The View From The Under Card. In contrast to my usual posts, Gary has chosen to write about an autobiography, a genre of book that I rarely read. The author of the book is also a wrestler, which would be an area that I would not exactly be highly involved in. However, I think that if you read the review below, you may find this an intriguing book, regardless of your interest in the subject area. Please share your thoughts in the comments section below though. Read the rest of this entry »

Antony and Cleopatra – Colleen McCullough

Antony and Cleopatra

Antony and Cleopatra is the 7th book in the Masters of Rome series, however I was unaware of this fact until after I finished reading it. Therefore, I will be reviewing Antony and Cleopatra as a standalone novel. Read the rest of this entry »
